Wheelworks did a lousy overhaul on my wife's bike... in fact, I'm pretty sure they did nothing at all. When we got the bike back, the frame was still dirty, the brakes needed adjustment, and the drive train was bone dry and had not been cleaned. A few minutes into a short test ride, a pedal fell off the crank. Both crank threads were so badly stripped that the pedals were barely hanging on. Honestly, I don't know whether the pedals were already like that when we dropped the bike off, but they certainly should have been noticed during the tune-up.
I have been into Belmont Wheelworks several times over the past few years. Stay away. I have found the sales staff to be uninterested in my needs and focused on what I am willing to spend. They were arrogant and rude repeatedly. After checking with other bike shops I bought a bike from the main store, because Wheelworks was the only shop with my size and model in stock. I arranged to pick the bike up on a specific day at a specific time. When I got there the bike was not ready. It took more than two hours for them to install non-quick release skewers for the wheels. There was no attempt to expedite the process. To the extent possible I will avoid doing business with them again. If you can buy a bike somewhere else, do so.
For starters, the staff at Wheelworks always seems too busy to help you, no matter how busy the shop actually is.
I did however have a nice experience buying a bike for my daughter at the annex (Wheelworks II). The people there helped her to define her needs. Then they helped her pick out a bike that delights her, a Specialized Vita. As it turned out there was a brand new Vita, but two model years old, bike in her size. They sold it to me for 15% less than the price they quoted me for the 2017 model and it had the better hydraulic disc brakes not cable operated ones. This and some other upgrades adds $200 to the list price. I am pleased that my daughter got lovely bike that suits her at a reasonable price. I suggest that you try the annex before going into the main store.
A highly competent, knowledgeable and complete bicycle shop. A pleasure to work with and shop in.
I went here looking for a folding bike. Gary helped me out and was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I was able to take a few for a ride before making a decision. He even set my wife up on a brand new electric bike so she could ride with me. I hadn't bought a bike since I was a kid so this was place was exactly what I needed. Overall a great experience. I would recommend and I will be back.
We brought the bike to Harris Cyclery in West Newton. They replaced the cranks and did a wonderful tune-up.
Great service I had to wait about 2 minutes until someone was able to help me, but he took my measurements and asked a lot of questions about what kind of bike i wanted. I was able to get a marlin 4 and they installed a bike lock and 2 water bottle holders free. The downside is that i had to wait a day to get the bike I wanted. But now that I have it. It works really well!
